HOW ARE DNA SAMPLES COLLECTED?
Collecting a DNA sample is a very easy process. The sample collection is a painless and non-invasive procedure.
This is accomplished with the use of a saliva buccal (cheek) swab, it resembles a Q-Tip type swab. The inside of both cheeks are swabbed collecting the mucus from the inside of the mouth where skin cells are impregnated of DNA cells.
Each sample collected is placed into an individually identified, dated and signed envelope where its stored and shipped to the lab to be processed.
In some special cases DNA is taken from a small blood sample, but this is very rare. Saliva DNA sample collection is preferred for children instead of blood sample taking because it is painless and non-invasive.
